WOW what an Easter we have had. We have had a fantastic time - but exhausting! Oh wait a minute that's probably because our church has run a kids club this last 3 days - with today being the last day! I can't believe how tiring a bunch of 50-odd kids can be - well it may be the preparation as well - oh & the silly daylight saving time change - are we the only one who hate the first week of changed time? It seems the kids are going to bed later (with their new bedtime being at an hour later - although the same "time") & of course they still get up just as early (which is actually an hour earlier). Well that probably doesn't make sense, but nothing in my brain is making sense right at the moment - sorry!
So what happened over Easter.... well we have had a wonderful visit with Dave's parents! It was lovely having them come & spend some quality time with us all. It is so nice for the children to get to spend this time with grandparents & great for us enjoying their company as well!
And I got a new baby!!
Introducing...... Bessie Buttercup Gertrude
Isn't she just the cutest. I find myself jumping out of bed in the morning eager for some calf cuddles as I feed her her milk (she's still on the bottle - but it's a great time for her to get used to us cuddling & patting her). She sure is lively though & it was very difficult to get any photos of her as she was moving around constantly - either that or wanting to be on my lap!
So why my excitement?.... Well first of all she's a jersey heifer..... that's right she's a she and jersey - with excellent bloodlines. Which means that in a couple of years Sunnyside will have it's own beautiful creamy delicious raw milk!!! Yes we will be one more step towards being self - sufficient!!!
The other reason is that Bessy will be a permanent part of our family - we can love upon her all we want without the knowledge that she will have to be either chopped or sold!!!
Now I know you probably don't understand my excitement, but this is something I have been dreaming about since I was a girl - a dairy cow called Bessie (this time Zai didn't get an option about her first name - although notice the string of names...)!
Sometimes dreams do come true...
In the meantime the washing line is calling me & I have 3 days worth of housework to catch up on! We are also eagerly counting down the days until Saturday when my parents & Granny arrive for a fortnight!! We love visitors at Sunnyside!
Hope you are enjoying your school holidays!
